2020 has been a long and strange year for us all and many can't wait to welcome in the New Year and finally wave goodbye to the past 365 days.
What better way to ring in the New Year than by cleansing your home of any negativity that was experienced and fill it with so much joy. Follow some, or all, of these helpful tips to start fresh in 2021!

Smudge around your home
The best way to get rid of any negative energy is by using a smudge stick- which is a bundle of sage and other fragrant herbs (lavender, rosemary, etc...) that is lit and immediately put out so the end is smoking. You then walk around each room in the home holding the smudge stick while thinking positive thoughts. Open any windows to allow the smoke to escape.
Declutter your space
Studies show that clutter affects our ability to focus and concentrate and can increase stress levels. Take some advice from Marie Kondo and remove any items around your home that doesn't bring you joy. Invite positive chi into your home with feng shui
Fill your home with positivity and balanced energy with the ancient Chinese practice of feng shui with a few of these recommendations
-
Check your commanding positions of the important furniture items in your home- such as beds and desks. This means that when you're at your bed or desk, you should be able to see the door but not be in direct line of it.
-
Integrate vertical lines and shapes. The simplest way is to add decor that sets vertically, but it could also mean adding a light fixture where the light travels upwards or a plant that grows vertically.
-
Make sure the most frequent routes in your home are free of obstacles.
-
Declutter the entryway, as it represents the way energy enters your home and your life. Remove piles of shoes, coats, or anything else that clutters the entryway. If you’ve got the space add some plants, artwork, or a simple table. Do whatever you can to make the area feel inviting!
Create a calm environment
As we are spending more time indoors, it's important to have a calm and relaxing environment surrounding you whether it be your entire home or a single room. Having a peaceful home as your base can help you launch yourself into the world from a less-stressed place each day. Move up spring cleaning a few months
One of the best ways to cleanse your home is to clean it. Enter the new year with a fresh (and clean) start. Many believe that by cleaning your home before January 1st ensures that you don’t carry the past year negativity into the New Year. This even includes cleaning out the fridge and pantry to remove old, expired goods or items that will not be used.
