Interior Trends: Bold and Bolder

As the weather cools and we spend more time indoors, fall and winter offer the perfect opportunity to refresh your home’s interior. Whether you’re updating spaces for your own enjoyment or getting your home ready to shine in next spring’s market, thoughtful design choices can make all the difference.

Houzz recently released its 2025 Fall Design Trends Report, and the theme is clear: individuality is in. Forget the sterile neutrals of the past few years — homeowners are embracing bold color, layered texture, and expressive detail to make spaces feel more personal and lived-in.

Bold Colors

Designers are moving away from minimalism and into maximalist self-expression. Homeowners are painting their walls with richer hues — think emerald green, plum, ochre, and cobalt blue — and pairing them with contrasting trim and moody lighting. Even traditionally neutral rooms, like kitchens and bathrooms, are getting a color boost through cabinetry, tile, and artwork. The idea is to make a statement that feels deeply personal rather than safe or expected.

Layered Textures

If you’re not ready to go all-in on bold color, texture can be your way in. This season, textures are the new neutral — adding depth and dimension through materials like bouclé, grasscloth, and plaster finishes. Fluted wood, woven textiles, and handcrafted details give rooms a tactile warmth that feels both timeless and modern. Think of it as the design equivalent of layering cozy sweaters: approachable, soft, and inviting.

Statement Surfaces

Kitchens continue to be the heart of the home, and countertops and backsplashes are now the stars of the show. Instead of blending in, they’re standing out. Quartzite, marble, and other dramatic natural stones with bold veining or embedded minerals are transforming kitchens into spaces that feel luxurious and artistic. It’s not just about cooking anymore — it’s about creating a visual experience where beauty and function meet.

Accented Walls and Ceilings

Wallpaper has made a major comeback — and it’s not stopping at the walls. Designers are turning their attention upward, using wallpaper, beams, and contrasting paint colors to give ceilings the same treatment as any other design element. Some homeowners are even matching wallpaper to bedding or window coverings for a cohesive, couture-inspired look. The result? Rooms that feel like works of art rather than simple boxes.

Integrated Hidden Features

As homes become more design-conscious, function is being quietly woven into form. Panel-ready appliances, hidden storage, pop-up TVs, and integrated lighting allow for a clean, seamless aesthetic that’s both elegant and practical. These hidden details make daily life easier while maintaining a polished, clutter-free appearance — the kind of design magic that feels effortlessly sophisticated.

The Takeaway

The overarching theme for fall and winter 2025 interiors? Confidence. Homeowners are designing for themselves, not just to follow trends — though these choices, ironically, may end up being the very ones that make a home stand out in next spring’s market.

From jewel tones to tactile finishes, the message is clear: embrace what makes your space uniquely yours.
