Holiday season is among us, which means friends and family are coming to visit. Getting ready for their arrival can get overwhelming with everything that has to be done. Here is a quick checklist to get your home prepped for your company.
Stock up on guest supplies
Check to make sure that the guest bathroom has plenty of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toilet paper, hand soap, tissues, and anything else they might need. Are there plenty of hangers in the closet or reading materials in their bedroom?
Make space in the entry way for extra clothes/ shoes
The front entry way or mudroom can become cluttered with extra jackets and shoes. Clear anything out that may not be necessary over the next couple days, so finding outside essentials is easier.
Start cleaning the week before and do a little each day
The big task of cleaning the house is daunting. Make this large project seem smaller by accomplishing a few tasks each day the week before guests arrive. Start with projects that won't need to be done last minute like dusting and leave projects like vacuuming for later.
Go food shopping before arrival
Stock up on all your guests favorite snacks and drinks before they arrive and plan out meals before hand. This will make sure that you aren't rushing to the grocery store all while your guest are visiting.
Write or type up instructions on how to use electronics
Turning on the TV or connecting to WIFI can be difficult if you are not familiar with either. Type up a cheat sheet for using the electronics around your home so guests are able to make themselves feel more at home.
Shovel the driveway and ice melt to driveway and sidewalk
November, December, and the beginning of January tends to be snowy months for certain areas. Clear the snow off the driveway and walkway for easier access to your home. Apply any ice melt if necessary.
Make sure light bulbs in guest rooms work
If you don't regularly use the guest room in your home, double check that the light bulbs are working properly. Stubbed toes aren't pleasant
Make sure there'll be enough clean linens
Wash any towels and sheets before guests arrive and place in an easy accessible spot.
Have extra blankets handy
Night time during the winter months is chilly. Put extra blankets in your guest room to make sure that they are comfortable.
Have spare keys handy
If you're guests will be coming and going throughout their stay, allowing them access to a spare key will make entering and exiting your home a breeze.
