Best Hikes in RMNP
The Rocky Mountain National Park is full of gorgeous hikes, lakes, mountain tops, and wildlife. Here at WK Real Estate, we love the ability to explore the scenic Colorado Rocky Mountains, so we’ve put together a list of some of the best hikes in the Rocky Mountain National Park that grow in difficulty.
Easy
Bear Lake - A classic! Especially in the fall when the aspen are changing. The loop around the lake is just 0.6 miles and flat, so it’s an easy day for the kids and has great views of Longs Peak for the adults.
Alberta Falls - Park at the Bear Lake Trailhead, then follow the signs south for Glacier Gorge and Alberta Falls. The waterfall is just 0.8 miles from the
parking area, making this a 1.6 mile out-and-back hike.
Moderate
Gem Lake -Aptly named, this glistening gem is tucked among granite domes and is entirely fed by snowmelt— no inlet or outlet. The 3.2 mile
out-and-back hike features stunning vistas along a moderately challenging trail.
Nymph, Dream, and Emerald Lakes - With a round trip of 3.6 miles, you’ll reach three high-mountain lakes with terrific views of Hallet Peak and
Longs Peak along the way. Add a fourth lake by continuing to Lake Haiyaha for a challenging 6.2-mile out-and-back hike.
Difficult
Sky Pond- This challenging 9.5 mile out-and-back hike begins at the Glacier Gorge trailhead and takes you past three waterfalls and a set of cascades. The prize at the end is one of the most stunning high-alpine lakes in the Park. Be prepared for changing conditions any time of year.
Chasm Lake - This 8.5 mile out-and-back hike begins at the Longs Peak trailhead and tops out at 11,823 feet. The lake sits in a deep cirque framed by Longs, Meeker, and Mount Lady Washington. Trekking poles are a good idea. Be prepared for changing conditions any time of year.
