A CU Student's Guide to Boulder

With school starting at the end of August, we've compiled a guide to Boulder for incoming and transfer students.  With the advice of CU junior Carly Remington, here's a list of everything you need to know to get acclimated during the first year.

 

General Info

  • Always figure out where your classes are before the first day

  • Use the map CU provides online to look up class locations

  • Eat at the C4C, but also explore the different dining halls so you don’t get tired of the food

  • Email professors but only after looking through the syllabus for the answer to your question

  • NEVER forget your clicker!

 

Best Places to Study

  • Norlin Library

    The Norlin Library is located on the western side of campus, on Pleasant Street. It offers resources for several areas of study as well as a coffee shop, IT support, a research area, collaborative work spaces, and more. Click here to view their hours.

  • UMC

    The University Memorial Center (UMC) is a hub for just about anything, including studying! They have work rooms to meet with a group to work on a project and lounge areas to study. Take a break from your hard work, with shops and dining that can be found in the center.   • Starbucks on the Hill

    The Starbucks located on the Hill is a great place to study off campus, without being too far away. This is a great area to get some work done if you don't like to study in complete silence. Click here to view their hours.

 

Things to Do

  • Hike Chautauqua

    Chautauqua offers several hiking trails with different lengths. Hike at night to avoid the crowds.

  • Go skiing or snowboarding

    Boulder is in a great location for those who like to ski and snowboard in the winter. There are eight ski mountains located less than 2 hours away. Depending on the ski mountain, they may offer college student discounts. Just ask for details at the ticket counter.

  • Go to CU football games and other sporting events

    CU football games are a really big deal to the school, and it's such a fun environment in which to participate. Click here to view the football schedule for this school year. If you love football games, try attending the other amazing sports competitions and meets that CU has.

  • Go bowling in the UMC

    Bowling at the UMC is a blast! On Friday and Saturday nights they offer extreme bowling with black lights, colored pins, and colored lane lights. If you're a bowling fanatic, they have competitive and recreational bowling leagues. Right now they are under construction, so stay tuned for when they reopen! Click here for more information.

  • Go swimming in the Boulder Creek

    Boulder Creek runs through the heart of Boulder. There are several spots along the creek to go in for a dip. If swimming isn't your thing, go tubing with a few friends.

  • Walk around Pearl Street

    Pearl Street is home to lots of great places. Enjoy a bite to eat, browse a local shop, or listen to live music at the bars.

  • Visit the Farmers Market

    Boulder hosts a farmers market twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday. They offer fresh foods from local farmers, artisans, music, and more.

  • The Corner

    The Corner is a great local place to grab a bite to eat any time of day. They serve all home-made goods with locally sourced vendors. Click here to view their menu.

    The Sink is known for having a funky vibe, iconic art and some amazing burgers and pizza. Click here to view their menu.

    Sushi Hana is a cozy sushi bar located on the Hill. It's a combination of traditional Japanese sushi with Western twist. Click here to view their menu.

    Illegal Petes is a great place for a quick eat. They offer handmade burritos, tacos, bowls, and more crafted with responsibly-sourced, high-quality ingredients. Click here to view their menu.

  • CU Theatre and Dance
