4th of July is a time to gather with family and friends to celebrate our freedom. This year our favorite spirit filled day looks a little different without the parades and parties, but we can still have just as much fun. Here are a few ways to celebrate America's 244th birthday.

Barbecue with your family
Barbecues are a Fourth of July staple! Make this years cookout more intimate by just hosting your immediate family. If you need a little food inspiration, this article is filled with some WK favorites.
Host a social distancing block party
Get together with a couple of neighbors and host a social distancing block party. Set up camping chairs at least 6 feet apart and chat over some food and drinks (supplied by your individual families, of course!)
Tube Boulder Creek
Float the afternoon away with your family on Boulder Creek. Make sure to apply plenty of sunscreen! Companies such as Whitewater Tubing and Recreation are open to provide tube rentals while following CDC guidelines and strict cleaning procedures. Eben G Fine Park is closed, so you'll need to avoid that section.
Create Patriotic Crafts
Get crafty with your kiddos on the fourth! This article by a mom blogger is filled with many crafty ideas. The slime project may or may not be our favorite.
Pack a picnic
Take a stroll to your neighborhood playground and enjoy a packed lunch. Boulder Parks and Rec. released a map of open and closed facilities. Click here to view the map.
Visit the farmer's market
Take a stroll around the Boulder's Farmer's Market from 8am- 2pm. The organizers highly recommend reserving a spot to make sure you will be able to enter. Click here to reserve your spot and support our local farmers, artisans, and bakers.
Build a water park in your backyard
Cool off from the heat by building a little water park in your backyard. Turn on those sprinklers and set up a slip-and-slide or other water toys. Amazon is full of assorted water toys or take a peak at your local Target or Walmart.
Go on a hike
Hiking trails and the national parks have reopened! Spend the day in nature by exploring your local town. If you choose to travel to Rocky Mountain National Park, you will need to reserve a time slot to follow the CDC guidelines. Click here to make a reservation for Rocky Mountain National Park.
Create your own ground firework display
Find a local firework stand for an assortment of ground fireworks and sparkers to set off when the sun goes down. Make sure you are being courteous of your neighbors and that they do not leave the ground.
There are a few cities around Boulder County that will be setting off fireworks to celebrate.
Berthoud
Berthoud has moved their 4th of July celebration to July 3rd. Fireworks will be set off at Waggner Farm Park at approximately 9:15pm nd can be viewed from anywhere in the town.
Firestone
Firestone will still have their yearly firework display. This year fireworks will be going off at 170 Grant Ave at 9:30pm. The parking lot will open for attendees to find the perfect viewing spot at 6:30pm.
