According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Colorado saw the twelfth-highest state population growth from 2019 to 2020, a year in which almost 50,000 people relocated here. That’s not a huge number, but since most of them landed on the Front Range, it feels like there’s a moving van on nearly every street lately.
Some are moving into Colorado, but many are moving out or moving up. The WK Real Estate Relocation Department sees both sides of the migration, and every year hosts courses to help our associates learn where people are moving, and why, to better serve clients.
According to Pam Metzger, WK Real Estate’s VP of Corporate Services and Relocation, remote work and distance learning are driving factors behind inbound and outbound migration in Colorado. “Many people that relocated here in 2020 now have permanent flexibility in their location,” she said. “If they can work from anywhere, they want to be in Colorado for lifestyle and family reasons.”
Another driver is the emerging trend toward “co-primary” homes, which are not the same as traditional second homes. Co-primary homes are used more frequently—a place to spend not only weekends and holidays but an entire summer or ski season. Remote work and distance learning make co-primaries a highly attractive lifestyle option.
The WK Relocation Department has close relationships with partner companies nationwide, and can simplify relocation whether you’re arriving, leaving, or looking for an upgrade. In 2020, WK helped facilitate transactions across Colorado and nationwide. Let us know how we can help.
