COVID accelerated many trends, including the art of home design. Modern homes now include space for two spouses to work and relax. Many are also being designed for expansion to accommodate home-schooled children, aging parents, adult children, guests, pets, or all of the above. Here are some trending features identified by Luxury Portfolio International®:
Workspace for school-age children to hold computers, printers, and school supplies while allowing parents to monitor activities.
Indoor/outdoor layouts that take advantage of views, yards, and landscaping to make even smaller homes feel roomy.
Space for young adults—Pew Research Center reports that as many as 52 percent of young adults ages 18 to 29 now live with their parents.
Pet spaces—U.S. pet ownership rose to 70 percent in 2020, an all-time high.
