It’s the perfect time to look back and give thanks to all we have done throughout the year. To honor our agents who have stepped up and volunteered time and funds to many of our local communities and organizations, we’ll be featuring different stories from our agents over the next few weeks.
Meet Lois Purtell. Lois has been a Broker Associate with WK Real Estate for over 30 years. For the past 3 years, she has also volunteered on the Board of Directors and as the Aid Station Coordinator for the Buffalo Bicycle Classic. The organization’s goal is to provide 100 scholarships for the arts and sciences students at CU by hosting a series of bike rides held around the 2nd Sunday of September.
The main event, the “Epic Ride”, is 110 miles of bike riding straight up Boulder Canyon. Additional rides varying in length from 14 to 100 miles ensure all abilities and levels have a chance to participate in this fundraising event. With over 1700 riders participating every year, they work hard to meet their fundraising goal. Lois assists with the 9 aid stations along the road. She talks about how wonderful it is to have the full support of the mechanics, police, CU and, of course, the riders, every year. It really is a community event bringing people together and raising funds for a good cause. Lois takes pride in maintaining the aid stations and ensuring that each station is welcoming and properly outfitted for the entire ride.
If you want to jump in and help out, volunteers are needed August through September as the ride preparations are in full swing, as well as on the actual ride day itself. People can also donate or pledge funds, enroll to ride or join at any level of the organization (even become a board member!).
Thanks Lois for giving your time and making our community a better place to live!
