At this year’s WK Real Estate Fall Retreat, we had the privilege of welcoming Hosea Rosenberg—celebrated chef, “Top Chef” winner, and owner of Boulder favorites Blackbelly and Santo. Known for his talent, leadership, and relentless dedication to craft, Hosea brought a refreshing level of honesty as he shared what it truly takes to build something meaningful and enduring.

From the outside, his success looks effortless: acclaimed restaurants, community recognition, and a career shaped by creativity and drive. But Hosea reminded us that the real story is far more human. He spoke openly about the long hours, the learning curve of entrepreneurship, and the constant need to adapt—whether to culinary trends, economic shifts, or personal challenges. Passion, persistence, and a willingness to evolve, he said, are just as essential in business as they are in the kitchen.
But the moment that resonated most deeply wasn’t about food or business at all.
It was about family—specifically, his daughter, Sophie.
A Family's Fight, A Community’s Mission
When Sophie was diagnosed with Multicentric Carpotarsal Osteolysis (MCTO)—a rare genetic condition affecting bones and kidneys—Hosea and his wife, Lauren, came face-to-face with a world few families ever encounter. MCTO is so rare that limited research existed, and even fewer paths toward treatment.
Instead of accepting that reality, they created a new one.
The Rosenbergs founded Sophie’s Neighborhood, a nonprofit dedicated to funding critical research, connecting leading scientists, and bringing hope to families facing ultra-rare conditions. What began as a mission to help one child quickly grew into something much larger: a collaborative effort bringing together physicians, researchers, geneticists, and supporters from across the country.
Through fundraising, advocacy, and an unwavering belief that answers can be found, Sophie’s Neighborhood has already helped accelerate scientific studies that could pave the way for future treatments—not only for Sophie, but for countless others who may one day receive the same diagnosis.

Lessons in Resilience, Leadership, and Community
Hosea’s story—both as an entrepreneur and as a father—left a lasting impact on everyone in the room. His message echoed a truth that applies to any field, including real estate: success isn’t a straight line. It’s built through grit, creativity under pressure, a willingness to pivot, and the courage to show up fully even when the path forward is uncertain.
He also reminded us of the profound difference community can make. When people come together with purpose and compassion, they don’t just solve problems—they create hope.
Gratitude for an Inspiring Visit
We are incredibly grateful to Hosea for sharing his story with us. His journey is a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t only about achievements—it’s about heart. It’s about seeing challenges not as roadblocks, but as opportunities to build something better. And it’s about using your platform, your passion, and your people to make a meaningful impact.
At WK Real Estate, community is at the core of everything we do. Hosting Hosea reinforced just how much strength, innovation, and generosity exists right here in Boulder—and how fortunate we are to be part of it.
