How to Celebrate with your Feline Friend!
International Cat Day was first created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Since then, many other organizations, nations and individuals have joined in celebrating our feline friends. But why celebrate?
World cat day is an opportunity for us to take some time out to connect with our furry friends. Studies show that interactions with cats may improve health and reduce physical responses to stress. Secondly, to commemorate the special bond between humans and cats; cats have been our BFF’s for at least 9,500 years! Thirdly to advocate for the well-being and safety of cats locally and worldwide. Finally, to celebrate cats, for the love of cats (or just for fun).
That's why we’ve got three activities you can do (with your cat) to celebrate:
1. Visit a Cat Cafe (or pet friendly restaurant)
Even if you don’t have a cat, you don't have to miss out on the fun of International Cat Day! Visit a cat cafe for some snacks and then, of course, some interaction with cats! Many times, the cats at cat cafes love to play with humans and are often available for adoption. Check out Purrfect Pause Cat Cafe in Boulder to see if you can get some quality time with a kitty.
2. Go Backpacking with your cat
Take your cat on an adventure! Many cats have a natural instinct to explore the wild, so why not take your cat on a hike with you? (However, don't force it!) Though it may take some training to get them accustomed to a harness or backpack it's a great way for you and your kitty to bond and go on an adventure together.
3. Get ready for some cat agility tournaments
While cat and dog agility may sound the same, it's not. Cat agility is better! It has more possibilities because of cats' unique abilities. Cats are natural sprinters and can ever reach speeds of around 30 m/ph! Though not as popular as dog agility tournaments, they are slowly making an impact. Agility training is a great way to bond with your kitty while also stimulating and challenging them!
Apart from these activities there’s an endless number of ways to bond and celebrate with your feline friend. You can cuddle with them (if they allow it), buy them new toys, bake some tuna cookies, or even groom them to pamper them!
With so many possibilities, we’re sure you’ll find a way to celebrate your furry friend!
