It’s the perfect time to look back and give thanks to all we have done throughout the year. To honor our agents who have stepped up and volunteered time and funds to many of our local communities and organizations, we’ll be featuring different stories from our agents over the next few weeks.
Kristen Solomon and Dene Yarwood – powerhouse Broker Associates with WK Real Estate – have enthusiastically supported the “I Have A Dream” Foundation of Boulder County for over 15 years. Kristen currently serves as the Board Chair and Dene is the Board Director. Dene’s husband, Dave, also supports the organization and is oftentimes found beside Dene tutoring, mentoring and organizing. All three supporters work with students from the end of second grade through high school, and then assist with the students’ four-year college tuition. Dene and Dave can be found tutoring a class of Dreamers in Longmont every Thursday, as well as mentoring youth several times throughout the month.
These Broker Associates “help Dreamers become achievers one child at a time.” In the affluent Boulder County community, there are “invisible,” impoverished communities whose youth face tremendous obstacles to academic and life success. The “I Have a Dream” Foundation is dedicated to helping these low-income youth achieve a brighter future through a long-term, comprehensive educational and cultural enrichment program. The ultimate goal of “I Have a Dream” is to provide the youth it serves with the necessary support and trusting relationships they need to close the achievement gap with their more affluent peers and complete high school prepared for higher education and a fulfilling career. As a unique incentive, the program offers each Dreamer a four-year tuition-assistance scholarship for college or vocational school upon successful completion of high school.
In addition to the day-to-day educational and life skills assistance, Dreamers also participate in fun activities such as the annual October pumpkin painting day, December cookie decorating and Christmas caroling events.
