School is out, which means summer has officially arrived! Although we might not be able to do all our usual, favorite summertime activities, here are some things you can do to beat the heat amid the pandemic:
Dickens Farm Nature Area
This 52 acre water and recreation park in Longmont opened last summer. It includes slower-moving water play areas and a float course along the St. Vrain Creek open to tubes, kayaks, paddleboards and small, non-motorized boats.
Tube Boulder Creek
Grab a tube and coast down Boulder Creek! Companies such as Whitewater Tubing and Recreation are open to provide tube rentals while following CDC guidelines and strict cleaning procedures. Eben G Fine Park is closed, so you'll need to avoid that section (and remember to tube in small groups only!), but the water will be cool and comfortable when we start reaching 90 degree days.
Make Your Own Backyard Water Park
Turn your backyard into an amazing water park full of fun options. From a simple hose or sprinkler, to slip and slides, splash pads or large inflatable pools you can make your own perfect oasis.
Ice Cream Happy Hour
A cool, sweet treat is perfect for those hot summer days. Many local ice cream shops are open for curbside pickup, or in-house dining now that restaurants are allowed to reopen (check out one of our favorites - Little Man Ice Cream in Denver!). Not interested in leaving the house just yet? Get all of your favorite ingredients at the grocery store, make up a few baskets for your best friends, and invite everyone to a Zoom call make-your-own sundae happy hour.
Boat at a Reservior
Union Reservoir in Longmont and Boulder Reservior are both open for boating activites. (Boulder Rez is only open for permit holders right now.) Both are closed for swimming, but you can still get out on the open water and enjoy the sunshine for a few hours in your favorite watercraft. Be sure to check out their websites before venturing over to make sure you know the new rules and guidelines.
