The BolderBoulder is world-famous for bringing 10K enthusiasts from all over to run or walk in an atmosphere that is fun and energetic with stunning scenery. Named America’s All-Time Best 10K by Runner’s World, is the 4th largest running race in the United States and the 7th largest in the world, and is celebrating its 36th anniversary on May 26, 2014. What an experience to come as a visitor to race in the BolderBoulder! As someone who is not familiar with the area, you may find these hints helpful.
1. Know where to shop
Shopping in Boulder is fun and eclectic. The quaint and popular automobile-free Pearl Street Mall is located in the heart of downtown Boulder and is lined with historic buildings housing every kind of shop imaginable. You can buy a kite or an alpaca sweater or an ice cream cone. In the mood to browse décor handmade by local artisans? How about unique shoes or kitchen gadgets? Pearl Street Mall has it all!
2. Know where to eat
Choices, choices, choices! Ask 20 Boulderites where to eat and you will get 20 answers! The best thing to do is to head to Pearl Street anywhere between about 9th and 18th Streets. The Downtown Boulder website has an awesome searchable map listing 112 dining establishments. Restaurants on the Pearl Street Mall usually post their menus outside – go explore! Another option for some more familiar restaurant choices is to go to 29th Street. This is an outdoor shopping area just east of 28th Street, between Arapahoe and Walnut. There you can find dining options with no surprises, such as BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, California Pizza Kitchen, Mad Greens, and Boulder native Noodles & Co, among others.
3. Know where to park
Parking for the BolderBoulder can be crazy. Many streets are blocked for the race and any map you may have will be useless. The official BolderBoulder course map shows all the roads you can drive on and the places to park. Very useful info!
4. Know what to do after the race
First, you must congratulate yourself for finishing one of the most popular races in the world! You don’t want to miss attending the RaceDayEXPO across the street from the finish area to get your free stuff from BolderBoulder sponsors and EXPO exhibitors. Next, plan to stroll through the Boulder Creek Festival, west of 14th Street between Arapahoe and Canyon. A Memorial Day tradition for over 25 years, the Festival “showcases everything from community arts and crafts to health alternatives and technology” and also features entertainment on four stages. If you think you’ll be too tired after the race, you can plan to attend ahead of time, either Saturday or Sunday, as the Festival runs all weekend. For information on parking and location of restrooms, etc., there is a map available.
