In 1976, the average home price in the Metro area was less than $40K, 30-year mortgage rates were around 9 percent, and the BolderBoulder was still three years away from running its first race. A different world, to be sure. But it was the world in which Lew Kingdom and Stu Wright would plant the flag that is today known as WK Real Estate.
The two brokers first met in 1974 at a local Boulder Area REALTOR® Association event. Almost from the start, they talked of opening their own real estate firm. It would take two years. By 1976, investing $6,000 each, they launched their company at 1900 Folsom Street on April 1.
The two visionaries took a long view of their company from day one. In 1987, when the concept of relocation-as-a-service was almost unheard of, they added a full-time dedicated staff and department to help people move into and out of the communities they served. On their watch, WK Real Estate became a charter member of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®, expanding the company’s reach and influence with a global network of independent brokers.
Dan Kingdom, Lew Kingdom’s son, joined the company in 1993 and is now WK’s managing broker. He has continued the pattern of forward-thinking that has been a cornerstone of WK’s success. Today, ongoing tech integration is revolutionizing the way properties are bought and sold, and we continue to focus relentlessly on long-term client relationships. Those relationships—like WK Real Estate—are built to last.
