10 Ideas For Pumpkins That Doesn't Involve Carving Them

Carving pumpkins is a great Halloween tradition, but scooping out pumpkin guts isn't for everyone. If you're looking to get in the Halloween mood without the mess, here are 10 ways to get crafty with pumpkins.

Melted Crayon Pumpkin

Put those unused crayons to use! Hot glue, or tape, crayons to the top of a pumpkin. White pumpkins tend to look better with this trend. Once the crayons are in place, use a hair dryer to melt the crayons on the pumpkin. To help the wax melt further down the sides, tip the pumpkin to any side.

Painted Pumpkin

There are endless different ways to paint a pumpkin, from fruits to animals or fun patterns. This may be just as messy, but watch your child's imagination come to life with a paintbrush in hand- or just their fingers.

Lacey Pumpkins

Do you have extra lace fabric laying around? Turn those scraps into a spooky pumpkin. Place the pumpkin in the center of the fabric and tie it with a ribbon around the stem.

Pumpkin Playdough

Make this craft Halloween focused by creating your own edible pumpkin playdough. Add a little black food coloring for the classic orange and black Halloween colors. Click here for the playdough recipe.

Mummify a Pumpkin

Take a roll of toilet paper and some tape or glue to turn your pumpkin into a mummy. Don't forget to add googly eyes, or paint them on yourself.

Grab a Decorating Kit

Pumpkin decorating kits have become very popular over the past couple years. They come with wooden or plasic pieces to push into a pumpkin to decorate it. Target and Amazon both have several options to choose from.

Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate

Stray away from decorating a pumpkin and turn one into a delicious fall drink! Start by creating your own pumpkin puree and then combine it with cocoa powder, milk chocolate chips, whipping cream, and some spices. Click here to view the hot chocolate recipe.

Spin a Spider's Web

Glue one end of a piece of string on the bottom of a pumpkin and wrap it around in different directions to create a spider's web. To help secure some strands in place, dab a bit of hot glue in the desired area. Add plastic spiders for a more dramatic effect.

Glitter Pumpkin

Add a little pizzaz to your pumpkin with glitter. Paint it with glue, then roll it around in your glitter of choice. To keep things contained, put your glitter in a roasting pan. For a little extra festiveness, use Halloween themed glitter!

Decorate with Duct Tape

Duct comes in all sorts of colors and patterns, making it super easy to decorate your pumpkin. Choose one roll to cover the pumpkin or create fun designs like stripes or polka dots.
