Craft breweries are becoming increasingly popular across America, and as the Boulder area is well known for their contribution to the art, we’ve decided to pick out some of our favorites. With smaller, lesser known names, it’s always fun to see which hidden gems you’ve missed on your own tours. Check out our list of 10 Boulder County breweries that we think are some of the best:
Located in Louisville, Gravity Brewing definitely has that brewery feel with games like pool, ping pong, and cornhole. Their fantastic beer is created by founder/brewer John Frazee. He fell in love with the craft beer movement, and his passion and devotion to the art ultimately led him to serve these award winning craft-brewed beers. Gravity brewing is definitely a place to check out if you’re wanting that low-key, friendly brewery vibe surrounded by great people.
Another small Louisville brewery is Crystal Springs. Owned by a father and son since 2010, they’ve been making great beer and great food in a very laid back atmosphere ever since. Known for having some of the best craft beer in the area, Crystal Springs is a great place to spend time with friends or co-workers as you enjoy plenty of options in a taproom filled with premium drafts and quality ingredients.
Opening in 2013, this Louisville brewery is truly a neighborhood favorite with a Belgian twist. The owner, John, loves Belgian style beer and wanted to created a place that mimicked some of the best features of Beligan pubs where neighbors could get to know neighbors again. 12Degree Brewing has no TV or technology, a very informal and relaxed pace, and a tight-knit sense of community. This is why 12Degree is the perfect place to relax, hang out, and spend time with friends.
West Flanders is one of the more popular breweries located on Boulder’s Pearl Street. Founded in 2012 by brothers Mark and Chris, as well as, brewmaster, Brian, their goal is to combine the traditions of Old World brewing and New World passion. They love the idea of pairing beer with food, so their menu highlights house specific meal selections. West Flanders’ Belgian inspired brew pub atmosphere and food perfectly blends with their focus on Belgian style beer.
Located in Lafayette and Longmont, the Post Brewing Company is all about comfort and family. The owners dreamed of a place where chicken and beer could come together into a perfect fusion of deliciousness. That dream came true with the Post. When you walk into the Lafayette branch, you get a sense of history from the roots of the building, making it a fun place to spend an evening. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re into a relaxed atmosphere and lots of chicken!
Littleton is home to this bigger, more well known brewery. With options to play bocce ball or corn hole, relax around the outdoor fire pits, or enjoy a leisurely indoor dining atmosphere, Breckenridge Brewery is geared toward those looking for a comfortable, communal setting. The brewery offers a 90-minute guided brewery/sampling tour five days a week in addition to their dining experiences. Breckenridge Brewery is a great place to enjoy the night on the wraparound porch and spacious beer garden with gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains.
Nighthawk brewery, located in Broomfield, is the perfect place to go if you’re looking for a fun night out! They have a spacious 2,000 square foot game room where you can hang out and play some N64, foosball, ping pong, corn hole and board games. On top of that, they also recently teamed up with local Tilt Pinball to bring in some awesome Pinball machines and arcade games. Nighthawk prides themselves on making you feel like you’re part of a welcoming, comfortable, and fun environment…and it really shows!
Father (Finkel) and son (Garf) started this small craft brewery in Boulder because “we share a love of well crafted beer and an appreciation for the life experiences we have enjoyed with a beer in hand.” Their goal was to create an inclusive atmosphere where anyone could come sit back and relax with friends. Finkel & Garf is worth checking out if you’re into the easy going, laid-back, and fun vibes with shuffle board, table top bowling, and more.
Leslie and Steve Kaczeus started Bootstrap Brewing in Longmont to follow their dream of creating an adventurous craft brewery dedicated to producing a wide range of high quality ales and lagers. Focusing specifically on the beer, you won’t find a top notch menu, but the big taproom experience is complemented with snackable items like Chex mix, beef jerky and pretzels. They also offer a gluten reduced beer and allow quiet dogs inside. Definitely a place to check out if you’re looking for something new.
Liquid Mechanics Brewing Company is a small, award winning neighborhood craft brewery located in Lafayette. The owners and brewers of Liquid Mechanics wanted this brewery to be fun and lively. Live bands play weekly and the food is great. As for the beer, the goal was to create brews that connect people and don’t cut corners – we’d say they succeeded!
