6 of the Best Golf Courses in Boulder & the Surrounding Areas

It’s said that the ball flies farther on the golf courses in Colorado. With the clear skies and warm weather around the corner, why not give it a shot and celebrate National Golfer’s Day coming up on April 10th with a round of golf! Check out this list of some of the highest rated golf courses in and around the Boulder County area:

 

 

1. The Omni Golf Course

 

The Omni golf course is surrounded by striking views of the front range and gorgeous scenery. Ranked third in the “Best Resort Courses of Colorado” survey, this course features 27 breathtaking holes. You can choose from three separate 9-hole courses. The Eldorado Course opened in 1999, featuring 3,436 yards of golf, and is the highest rated out of the three courses.  The Vista Course also opened in 1999, featuring 3,521 yards of golf, and has the second highest rating. Lastly, the Sunshine Course opened in 2000 and features 3,519 yards of golf. After your round of golf, check out the Fairways Restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner featuring delicious American cuisine!

2. The Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills

 

Opened in 1963, the Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills are some of the first 18-hole championship golf courses in the northern metropolitan area. There are four different courses offered for all experience levels including The Gold Course, also known as the Championship Course, which has received many awards for its unique design and spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains. The Blue Course, also known as the Regulation Course, is one of the most popular 9-hole golf courses in the Northern Metropolitan area and is enjoyable for all levels of golfers. There are also two par-3 courses for both the non-experienced and experienced golfers. The South Par 3 (advanced) and the North Par 3 (beginner) are both well-loved and perfect for a family day of golfing! The Greg Mastriona Golf Courses exceed all expectations of giving you the “full golf experience” by including the Ciancio’s Restaurant at Hyland Hills which is a full service restaurant and bar known for their delicious Italian cuisine. 3. Walnut Creek Golf Preserve

 

Recently known as the Heritage at Westmoor Golf Course, the Walnut Creek Golf Preserve is home to more than 77 wildlife species. Founded in 1999, it is managed to preserve and support the wildlife habitat as well as making it a beautiful and once in a lifetime golfing experience. The award-winning championship course offers 18 holes over 215 acres overlooking the Rocky Mountains. After your game of golf, enjoy a casual dinner at the Heritage Grill with the family for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

4. Haystack Mountain Golf Course

 

Built in 1966, Haystack Mountain is rich in both Native American and U.S. history. It’s said that in 1858, Chief Niwot was the Indian who met the first settlers coming into the Arapahoe region. After the constant battling between the settlers and the Indians, he moved his tribe to Colorado Springs where he was eventually killed in battle. His tribe then brought his body back and buried him on Haystack Mountain where he still remains today. This family friendly golf course is laid back and perfect for enjoying nature. Feel free to arrive at any time, as there are no tee times and closing time is whenever the last customer leaves. Enjoy the clubhouse with a full bar and fresh sandwich menu and be sure to soak in all the history this course has to offer!

5. Fossil Trace Golf Course

 

Known for its rich history, Fossil Trace is ranked as one of Denver’s best golf courses by Colorado golf and lifestyle publications. Triceratop footprints, as well as other prehistoric creatures’ fossils, can be seen adjacent to the golf course’s 12th green. Many other historic items can be seen throughout the course such as massive remnants of clay mining equipment. Being adjacent to the foothills of the Rocky Mountain front range, you will have many breathtaking views during your round of golf, as well as, the town of Golden towards the east. This family friendly course offers 18 beautiful holes and although there isn’t currently a restaurant, you can expect to see one open up towards the end of the off season!

6. Indian Peaks Golf Course

 

Since opening in 1993, Indian Peaks has ranked as one of Colorado’s finest public golf facilities, and the 18-hole championship course definitely lives up to that ranking. You receive gorgeous views of the northern front range as well as six lakes and two winding creeks. This family friendly course allows kids, ages 7-17, to play free with each paid adult after 5:00 PM, so don’t miss out on taking the whole family out for a game of golf! Afterwards, make sure you check out the Peaks Bar & Grill open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner where you can sit back on the patio and enjoy the beautiful views and great food.
